Who is responsible for damaged containers and cargo? This is a costly question for many operators of inland terminals. In daily ship-to-shore crane operations, it is almost impossible to prevent damaged loading units from being accepted as damage-free. In addition, loading errors can also be a cost driver.
The automated capture and identification of containers offers a solution for both.
When unloading containers, crane operators have no way of checking their condition – which makes terminal operators legally vulnerable. Once set down, cargo units are considered accepted as damage-free, even if they are not.
The solution: the Rivergate. As containers pass through the crane bridge, the system uses intelligent camera sensors to capture high-resolution images of the condition of the end faces and doors. The data is then immediately transferred via an interface to the Crane Management System (CMS), which in turn can forward it to the Terminal Operation System (TOS).
This provides you with conclusive evidence in the event of recourse claims that damage was already present when the container was unloaded.
Not only does container acceptance pose a risk; incorrect loading also results in high follow-up costs. The Rivergate system can prevent such expensive errors by capturing the container number using powerful optical character recognition (OCR) and transmitting it to the customer's CMS. With direct forwarding to the TOS, terminal operators can immediately compare the container numbers with the loading list and, if necessary, instruct the crane operator or CMS to stop unloading the unit if the number is wrong.
How often do end customers, container companies, or freight companies ask you whether certain loading units are on site or have already left the port?
With Rivergate, you will be able to respond quickly and accurately while saving time and effort. Simply make the information on water-side loading provided by the system available online – from container condition to time stamp. This will also enable other digital service and business models.
As a result, you can provide your partners and customers with real added value!
Integrating and operating the Rivergate is incredibly easy: VITRONIC is your single source for the hardware system, recognition software, connection to your interface, and service. In addition, the solution is simple to install and, thanks to its low-maintenance design with no moving parts such as guide rails, is resistant to malfunctions and wear.
Furthermore, the easy replacement of components via plug-and-play ensures smooth operation – and if you nevertheless require our support, we will help you in the shortest possible time with our remote maintenance service.
